The Rundfunkchor Berlin’s educational programme SING! has been committed for many years to ensuring that all children and young people, regardless of their social or cultural background, have access to musical education. Every year, about 500 Berlin schoolchildren and their teachers experience in their daily school life how valuable singing together can be – for social cohesion as well as for personal growth.

We are deeply concerned about the proposed cuts to the 2026/27 double budget, which threaten numerous initiatives in cultural education for children and young people. These initiatives create spaces where young people can find their voice, experience self-efficacy and build a sense of community – regardless of where they come from or their social circumstances.

Through our SING! programme, we see every day that cultural education is indispensable and must not fall victim to budget cuts!

Cultural education creates spaces for encounter, creativity and confidence.

Cultural education creates spaces for encounter, creativity and confidence. It enables young people to broaden their means of expression, to experience community, and to find their place in a diverse society. Especially long-term programmes such as SING! rely on stable and reliable planning frameworks.

We therefore join the collective call of the Landesvereinigung Kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung Berlin e. V. to strengthen cultural education for children and young people in Berlin sustainably and to secure its conditions for the future. We hope for a solution that preserves the high quality and diversity of cultural educational opportunities in our city.
