SING! Project in Primary Schools

100 Jahre Rundfunkchor Berlin: Teilnehmende des »Sing!«-Programms bei der Liederbörse 2022 in der Philharmonie Berlin 100 Jahre Rundfunkchor Berlin: Teilnehmende des »Sing!«-Programms bei der Liederbörse 2022 in der Philharmonie Berlin

The SING! project aims to firmly establish group singing as a natural form of expression in everyday school life, to foster a positive atmosphere in schools and communities, and to introduce children, adults, and educators to the art of singing and vocal performance.

Over a three-year project period, educational staff at each school receive hands-on further training, and work with the headteacher to develop processes that make day-to-day school life more musical in the long term. After all, singing can be used in every subject – to provide variety and to create space for renewed concentration.

Training for teachers and educational staff

With the pool of songs and the methodology acquired, teachers and educators can continue the work at their school independently, even after the three-year project period has come to an end.

»Today our newly founded school choir is giving its very first performance! We now have almost 60 children singing – a huge success for us and clearly the result of our collaboration with you!« – Teacher, Märkische Grundschule Berlin

SING! choirs

At the participating primary schools, SING! choirs are formed, bringing together children from different classes. They discover their own voices, experience a sense of community, and take their new-found confidence in singing back into regular lessons, where SING!-trained educators integrate singing and movement for all children.

Patron singers from the Rundfunkchor Berlin

Patron singers from the ranks of the Rundfunkchor Berlin visit SING! schools on a regular basis. Above all, they want to encourage the children and show them how much fun music can be.

They sing with the children and talk about their work as professional singers. For most pupils, these visits are their first encounter with professional vocalists.

In turn, classes are invited to visit the Rundfunkchor Berlin during rehearsal at the Haus des Rundfunks. Here, they experience at close hand how a professional choir works, meet their patron singers again, and explore the similarities and differences to their own singing in the school choir.
