Requiem d-Moll KV 626
für Soli, Chor und Orchester d-Moll KV 626
It won’t just be as part of »Flying Mozart,« with breaking interludes, that the Rundfunkchor Berlin performs Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s beloved Requiem this season. This format is every bit as special in its own way: at the Sing-along Concert, c. 1,300 participants will join forces with the professional singers of the Rundfunkchor Berlin to take over the Philharmonie’s Grand Hall and unleash a quite unique sonic power. For anyone who hasn’t experienced such a spectacle before: it’s absolutely worth it, we promise! Come along. Join in. Sing with us.
Over two rehearsals, we’ll work through Mozart’s Requiem under the direction of Simon Halsey, before performing it with the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin. And of course, four outstanding soloists – Victoria Randem (soprano), Claire Barnett-Jones (mezzo-soprano), Caspar Singh (tenor), and Ilia Kazakov (bass) – will also be joining us. Don’t miss this extraordinary concert – whether you’re singing or simply listening!
The concert will be recorded by Deutschlandfunk Kultur and broadcast later on.
Opened in 1963, the Philharmonie Berlin is one of the icons of modern architecture. Architect Hans Scharoun created a completely new form for the concert hall: the 2,250 seats are arranged in different blocks, terraced like a vineyard, around a five-sided orchestra podium. Beneath the hall is the foyer, whose labyrinthine staircases cause even regular visitors to get lost time and again. The unusual silhouette of the building, whose outer shell is clad in golden aluminium panels, can also be explained by its internal layout. The hall is also considered one of the best in the world in terms of acoustics. It is home to the Berliner Philharmoniker, but is also used by other Berlin orchestras and event organisers.
