Rachel-Sophia Dries

Born in Berlin in 1981, Rachel-Sophia Dries studied Musicology and Italian at Freie Universität Berlin and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Alongside her studies, she began building a career in cultural management, working with Berlin’s Vaganten Bühne, the orchestras and choirs of Humboldt-Universität, and the management team of Max Raabe and his Palast Orchester.

In 2011 she helped launch chor.com, the German Choral Association’s first national choral convention. She soon joined the Rundfunkchor Berlin to oversee marketing and communications, a role that included supporting the choir through Gijs Leenaars’s appointment as Chief Conductor in 2015. After four seasons at Berlin’s Schaubühne, she returned to the Rundfunkchor Berlin in August 2022 as Managing Director.

Rachel-Sophia Dries is committed to ensuring that the Rundfunkchor Berlin is as open, varied and outward-looking as the city it calls home. She develops new ways for audiences to encounter classical music, creates partnerships beyond the usual concert-hall setting, and works to involve people from all walks of life – regardless of their background, income or musical experience. For her, the choir is an artistic force whose impact reaches far beyond the concert hall: rooted in excellence and quality, yet equally driven by participation and innovation.
