Georg Drake, Tenor im Rundfunkchor Berlin

The tenor Georg Drake studied opera at the Berlin University of the Arts with Elisabeth Werres, having first received his vocal training with Sabine Ritterbusch in his home city of Hanover. He was awarded a scholarship from the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes and went on to refine his artistry in masterclasses with Margreet Honig, Axel Bauni, Peter Kooij and Eric Schneider.

As a concert soloist he has worked with ensembles such as the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, the Kammerakademie Potsdam, the SWR Symphonieorchester and the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal. He has appeared under conductors including Howard Arman and Lothar Zagrosek and has recently been heard on numerous occasions as the tenor soloist in Haydn’s »Die Schöpfung« as well as in the Evangelist roles in Bach’s Passions. A recording of Johann Rosenmüller’s »Marienvesper« with Jörg Breiding, in which he features as a soloist, was nominated for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik, and concert engagements have taken him to St Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna, Bamberg and Berlin Cathedrals and the Berlin Philharmonie.

On the opera stage he has performed as Pedrillo in Mozart’s »Die Entführung aus dem Serail« at the Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg, where he was also a prizewinner at the 31st International Singing Competition. He stepped in at short notice at Theater Osnabrück to sing Arankan in Karol Rathaus’s »Fremde Erde«, and toured to the Rheingau Music Festival with a youth operetta production from Theater Lübeck.

Georg Drake’s enthusiasm for ensemble singing dates back to his time in the Knabenchor Hannover and later the German National Youth Chamber Choir. He has been a member of the Rundfunkchor Berlin since 2022 and also appears as a guest with the Norwegian Soloists’ Choir.
