Being a professional choral singer for a week

Under the direction of Nico Köhs, Assistant to the Principal Conductor of the Rundfunkchor Berlin, a select ensemble works on an ambitious a cappella programme which is later performed in concert. In addition, the students gain first-hand insight into large-scale choral-symphonic work as they rehearse a major programme with the Rundfunkchor Berlin – including Igor Stravinsky’s »Symphony of Psalms« and works by Lili Boulanger – culminating in a performance with the DSO Berlin under Ingo Metzmacher at the Berlin Philharmonie after an intensive rehearsal week.

All participants receive a certificate of participation at the end of the week.

Information on participation and application

Dates and locations

• 28 September to 10 October 2026 : rehearsals at the Haus des Rundfunks, Berlin
• 4 October 2026 : a cappella concert by the Schola participants
• 09th and 10th October 2026: two choral symphonic concerts, with Igor Stravinsky’s »Symphony of Psalms« and works by Lili Boulanger in the Berlin Philharmonie

Costs

Participation in the Schola is free of charge.

Participants are responsible for the cost of accommodation, but Rundfunkchor Berlin will pay travel expenses in the amount of a train ticket with BahnCard50.

The Friends and Supporters of Rundfunkchor Berlin award a small stipend in the amount of € 250 per person and offer a limited number of private accommodations.

Please select your preferred audition date in the application form so that we can invite you to the audition after checking your documents. You will be informed at the latest two weeks before the date whether you have been invited to audition.

The auditions for the Schola des Rundfunkchores Berlin will take place on
12 May 2026 in Cologne,
13 May 2026 in Stuttgart,
14 May in Berlin.
The application deadline is 31 March 2026. The selected applicants will present two works of their own choice (song, opera or oratorio) as well as a choral part to be announced at short notice.
