Yuval Weinberg Appointed New Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Rundfunkchor Berlin
Yuval Weinberg will become the new Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Rundfunkchor Berlin. The 35-year-old Israeli conductor will assume the position on 1 August 2028, succeeding Gijs Leenaars, who has shaped the ensemble since 2015. During the 2027/28 season, Weinberg will already be involved in the choir’s artistic planning as Chief Conductor Designate.
Currently Chief Conductor of the SWR Vokalensemble, Weinberg is considered one of the most sought-after choral conductors of his generation. He made his debut with the Rundfunkchor Berlin in December 2024, leading a Christmas concert at Berlin Cathedral that delighted both the audience and the ensemble. His collaborations with leading orchestras and choirs across Europe – including the Berlin Philharmonic, Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, and Chorwerk Ruhr – together with his passion for contemporary music and nurturing young talent, are hallmarks of his artistic profile.
