Laura Murphy is an Irish mezzo-soprano. She completed her Master’s degree in singing at the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin with Sebastian Noack, having previously studied with Mary Brennan at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. She has also been a member of the Opera Studio of Northern Ireland Opera and a scholarship holder at the Mozartfest Würzburg.

Her love of choral singing emerged early on. During her studies she sang with the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Choir, the Chorakademie Lübeck, the Wexford Festival Opera Chorus and the Opera Ireland Chorus, touring extensively across Europe, South America and China.

Contemporary music theatre is a particular focus of her work. She has appeared in numerous premieres, including the Chinese premiere of Tan Dun’s »Buddha Passion«, Hassan Khan’s »tainted« at the MaerzMusik festival in Berlin, as Vera in John McIlduff and Brian Irvine’s »Conversations Across Time« in Ireland, as Ham in Malte Giesen’s »Tako Tsubo« and in »Neue Szenen III – Die Durchbohrung der Welt« in the Tischlerei of the Deutsche Oper Berlin.

Her stage roles so far include Zulma in Rossini’s »L’italiana in Algeri«, Olive in Delius’s »Koanga«, Nicklausse in Offenbach’s »Les Contes d’Hoffmann«, Ottone in Handel’s »Agrippina«, Arsamene in Handel’s »Serse«, the Third Lady in Mozart’s »Die Zauberflöte«, Ino in Handel’s »Semele« and Nancy in Britten’s »Albert Herring«.

She has enjoyed success in competitions as winner of the Iréne Sandford Award, as a finalist in the Northern Ireland Opera Festival of Voice and as a scholarship holder of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
