
Holger Marks studied singing from 1993-97 with Marga Schiml at the Karlsruhe Musikhochshule and afterwards, until 2000, with James Wagner in Hamburg. He has participated in masterclasses given by James Taylor (Bach cantatas) and Jean-Claude Malgoire (Baroque opera) as well as by Joan Morris and William Bolcom (pop and jazz).
A versatile singer, Holger Marks has performed numerous operatic roles, for example Ferrando (Così fan tutte) and Titus (La clemenza di Tito) on stage in Hamburg, Paris, Prague and Warsaw. As a concert singer he has collaborated with the Hamburger Symphoniker, SWR-Rundfunkorchester and the Babelsberg Film Orchestra at venues including Hamburg’s Laieszhalle (Musikhalle), the Philharmonie of Berlin and of Essen, Nymphenburg Palace in Munich, Berlin Cathedral, Dortmund’s Reinoldikirche and the famous pilgrimage church of Wies in Bavaria. His other engagements include sacred concerts, operetta and song recitals in Norway, Italy, France, Switzerland, the USA and Brazil. He also sang the part of Jesus in the musical Jesus Christ Superstar before an audience of 65,000 on Germany’s largest open-air stage at Ötigheim. Marks also has a special affinity for popular standards by such composers as George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Richard Rodgers.
Holger Marks has been a member of Rundfunkchor Berlin since April 2008.
