Johannes Spranger was a member from 1963 to 1969 of the Dresden Kreuzchor, with whom he received his first musical education. In 1971 he began a course of study in church music in Dresden, completing it with the B-exam. During this time he directed various church choirs and put the finishing touches on his organ playing in concerts and at services.
In 1976 Spranger began vocal studies with Elfried Kern at Weimar’s Liszt Musikhochschule, and after graduating in 1980 he was engaged by Rundfunkchor Berlin. He has been active with several chamber music formations within the chorus (among them the Berlin Soloists and Double Quartet), performing with them in numerous concerts as well as radio and studio recordings. He has also been heard as a soloist in radio plays.
Since completing his studies Johannes Spranger has worked regularly with his vocal coach Sigrid Weiße-Bintig.
