Sabine Puhlmann was born in Frankfurt am Main and began violin and piano lessons at the age of six. She studied German literature and music education with an emphasis on violin in Mainz. After passing the state exam she studied singing from 1994 to 1997 with Hans-Joachim Beyer in Leipzig, during this period also participating in various master courses, including those of Jakob Stämpfli in Berne and Edith Sélig-Papée in Paris.
A singer in numerous choruses from her early youth, including Helmuth Rilling’s Gächinger Kantorei, Puhlmann was a member of Collegium Vocale of Ghent under Philippe Herreweghe from 1997 to 2002 and participated in many concert tours and CD productions with this ensemble.
Sabine Puhlmann became a half-time member of Rundfunkchor Berlin in 1999 and has been a full-time member since 2002. In 2004, together with four colleagues of the Radio Chorus she founded the Amalien Ensemble dedicated to ensemble music with solo voices. She is often heard as a Rundfunkchor Berlin soloist, for example in 2008 with the Berlin Konzerthausorchester conducted by Michael Gielen.
Sabine Puhlmann represents the choruses of Rundfunk Orchester und Chöre GmbH Berlin on the “roc” Board of Trustees.
